About Panhandle Hometown Guru

Welcome the Panhandle Hometown Guru, a companion site to Best of the Best, The Journal's readers choice awards contest.

Each year in Best of the Best, we ask the public to nominate, and then vote for, their favorite businesses, businesspeople, events and attractions in West Virginia's Panhandle and surrounding areas.

On PanhandleHometown Guru, you’ll find the winners, finalists and top-five vote-getters from the contest, so when you’re looking for the best burger, the right dentist for you, a good plumber and more, you’ve got solid recommendations from folks in the know. Pretty much all of the Panhandle's favorites are right here!

How do I know where a business placed in Best of the Best?

When you’re viewing a business, note the gold, grey and white tags above its name that show where it finished in Best of the Best—winner, finalist or top 5—and in which year. If a business that won in prior years has since closed, there will be a red “closed” tag above it. We’ve retained those businesses to honor their victories.

See something wrong with a business's information?

We do our best to stay on top of changes as businesses move and expand, but as most humans do, we sometimes miss things. Want to suggest a correction or an edit to a business' information? Simply click in the business name, then click Suggest An Edit on the top right above its name, where you can fill out and submit a form with your feedback.
